Folks can throw serious celebrations here with ace desserts and great wine. Gibsons is the quintessential place to get mammoth cuts, such as 48-ounce porterhouses and 32-ounce tomahawk chops, or grass-fed Australian beef. Gibsons has a few locations, including Gibsons Italia, a more modern representation with gorgeous views of the Chicago River.

The expansive bar at Parkway Grill is an original from 1920's Chicago that was transported to Pasadena in the early 1980's—a handsome representation of the Rose City's Midwestern roots. Amidst the dark wood motifs are top-shelf liquors, aperitifs, and a broad selection of wines served by the glass. Parkway's award-winning wine cellar has been recognized with the prestigious "Best Of" Award by Wine Spectator annually since 1999.

To go all out, opt for the set menu that puts the decision-making in the hands of the kitchen. Chicago’s gateway to Argentinian cuisine can be found at this lively Lincoln Square restaurant. Artango channels the spirit of Buenos Aires thanks to a 1920s theme, live music, tango dancing, and an array of grilled meats. The grass-fed beef range from short ribs to ojo de bife (heart of rib eye), and they’re served with chimichurri or oyster-malbec sauce. Steak flights are also an option for diners looking to share or sample multiple cuts. The steak itself are special, with the fat akin to the smoky goodness of an al pastor taco.

The steaks are wet-aged for 28 days and can be topped with accompaniments such as burrata, foie gras, or black truffle-sauteed lobster. Modern steakhouses offer better service, gorgeous views, and more options than ever before — wedge salads are iconic, but salad lovers deserve better than iceberg and ranch. The building was completely renovated, and the menu updated.

OT Patrick Paul (55) doesn’t seem to fit the team’s preferred style of athletic tackles. Traded up for WR Xavier Worthy (28) and took a shot on raw OT Kingsley Suamataia. TE Jared Wiley, S Jaden Hicks, OL Hunter Nourzad and CB Kamal Hadden give opponents more reason to fear the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. Traded down to No. 23 and got a player many projected they’d take at 17 in WR Brian Thomas Jr. Filled defensive needs with DL Maason Smith (48) and S Jarrian Jones (96). Top pick CB Kamari Lassiter (42) can step right in and play.

About Steak U

RT JC Latham (7) will make the transition to the left side to protect Will Levis’ blindside. Gambled on DT T’Vondre Sweat (38) earlier than expected but he’s a big man who fits a need on the D-line. Came away with a talented group on Day 3, including LB Cedric Gray, WR Jha’Quan Jackson, S James Williams and LB Jaylen Harrell. CBs Quinyon Mitchell (22) and Cooper DeJean (40) are a significant boost to the secondary.

OT Amarius Mims (18) has major upside but isn’t as much of a slam dunk as other linemen who went in the first round. Had a strong second day, getting DT Kris Jenkins, WR Jermaine Burton and DL McKinnley Jackson. BLVD pivoted during the pandemic and now hands its reins to chef Joe Flamm who moves over from Rose Mary to give this West Loop space some pop.

Even though Chicago chefs have worked wonders to change what the world thinks of its culinary offerings, Chicago’s steakhouses still thrive. Seated in the middle of the country as a city of commerce, business folks still turn to steakhouses for power lunches and conduct meetings. Thanks to its progressive spirit and innovations like an exhibition kitchen and extensive use of a wood-fired oven, the Parkway Grill is often referred to as "the Spago of Pasadena".

Taking QB Bo Nix in the 20s instead of at No. 12 would’ve been ideal but they didn’t want to risk losing him. Made excellent picks the rest of the way with DE Jonah Elliss (76), WR Troy Franklin, CB Kris Abrams-Draine and RB Audric Estime. Franklin is a first-round talent who slipped to the fourth. Traded out of the first round and saw three more receivers go before ending up with WR Keon Coleman (33). Got better value with S Cole Bishop (60) and DL DeWayne Carter (95) later in Day 2.

He hired Bill Farrahi, a former chef at Café Bohemia and a partner at Shuckers; he was adept at preparing a wide variety of meats and game, including moose, bear, buffalo and elk. Bill recalls that he and Henry got the idea for a 64- and 48-ounce porterhouse from Café Bohemia— and so the legend was born. The depth and quality of this list speaks to Chicago’s long and renowned history for being the source of some of the nation’s finest steak. While we may have ranked our preferences, you certainly can’t go wrong with a dinner night out at any of the restaurants that made the list. Chicago Chop House is located in the bustling River North neighborhood in downtown Chicago at 60 W.

Getting DL Michael Hall Jr. (54) made it worth the wait for the last team to draft. The Chicago Bears are the leading contender to have a Texans-like turnaround after getting QB Caleb Williams with the first pick and wide receiver Rome Odunze at No. 9. The Carolina Panthers ended up with the worst record despite taking Bryce Young No. 1 overall so they have to be patient.

Selection of available cuts and variety of sides and accompaniments were our next highest factors, because every good steak needs a supporting cast. Finally, we took into consideration the fine details such as ambience, reputation, service and potential to sneak a peek at a Hollywood superstar. What we came up with was a list of 10 of the best Los Angeles area steakhouses, with five more that were so good they deserved a nod to their beefy wonders on our honorable mentions list. The menu at the simply named Wolfgang’s is paired down compared to what you’d see at other establishments, fitting on a single page for the dinner selection, excluding the wine list of course.

RPM mixes a serious steakhouse with a scenester vibe, creating a unique experience. Boneless ribeye and filet mignon are typically two of the most popular steaks to order at a restaurant. If you’re visiting a steakhouse in Los Angeles, consider ordering strip steak, baseball-cut sirloin, or tomahawk ribeye, some of the specialties at top LA steakhouses. If you thought you needed to go to New York to find the top Italian style steakhouses in the U.S., think again. Chi Spacca is proving that LA truly is one of the great melting pots of cuisine. The most iconic preparation, the immensely sized Bistecca Fiorentina, can certainly rival even the best that Italy has to offer.

OL Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, LB Edefuan Ulofoshio and LB Javon Solomon are outstanding picks in the fifth round. Fifty-seven miles away, defensive end Chop Robinson was holding his draft party. The new ownership also added nightly music that plays to the restaurant’s vintage take on unpretentious steakhouse ambiance. But perception is changing, and the owners of Omakase Yume, a fantastic sushi restaurant in its own right, are showing off different elements of Japanese and Korean cooking. Chef Sangtae Park has unveiled Bonyeon, a 12-seat counter with seven courses dedicated to showcasing beef in its purest forms. Well-known cuts will accompany less-appreciated ones, as Park gives diners a dining experience seldom seen in Chicago. Lining the walls of one of Chicago’s original steakhouses are more than 1,400 historic photos featuring iconic sports, entertainment and political personalities, including photos of every mayor.

The ambience certainly isn’t a slouch either and wood-worn tables will have you instantly transported to Tuscany and beyond. Definitely one of the don’t-miss establishments for great LA steakhouse dining. What makes the beef at this top-tier steakhouse so memorable, and gets the Chicago Steak Company nod of approval, is the unique breed heritage. Other ingredients are equally as fresh, with as many menu items as possible harvested from local farms to ensure both sustainability and optimal taste.

The beef is predictably top-notch, especially the 42-day dry-aged ribeye that’s complemented by béarnaise sauce. RPM, from Bill and Giuliana Rancic and Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, is one of the sexiest spaces in town, dimly lit and club-like. RPM prides itself on finding unique cuts of meat, sometimes it could be a prized selection of wagyu, and other times it could be well-marbled and dry-aged meat.

S Calen Bullock (78) is cream of the rest of a crop that includes OT Blake Fisher (59) and TE Cade Stover. Getting QB Caleb Williams (1) and WR Rome Odunze (9) in the top 10 will help them compete for a playoff spot this season. OL Kiran Amegadjie (75) provides more protection Williams. Took Tory Taylor, the best punter in the draft, a little early in the fourth. The Houston Texans went from worst to first in their division last season after selecting quarterback C.J. Chef Jonathon Sawyer won a James Beard Award for his work in Cleveland, and he’s made a mark by teaming up with Fifty/50 Restaurant Group with a decadent menu of fire-grilled items. Inspired by famed chef Francis Mallmann, the team takes pride in live-fire cooking, and the result is some of the tastiest beef in Chicago with a hint of South American influence. Ron Paul: Final nail in Americas coffin?

paul rand design

He radically transformed advertising, blowing away the dust of the Depression era and pioneering a new, modern approach to selling products. He helped convince some of nation's biggest corporations that good design was good business, crafting indelible logos for the likes of IBM, UPS, and ABC. It is Rand's book covers, in my opinion, that are the epitome of mid-century modern design; something I just adore. His use of flat geometric shapes, bold colors and whitespace is quintessential mid-century modern design. In these examples, each one hints at the message conveyed within the book by use of symbolism to represent the message.

Leave a Flower

At the age of 82, Paul Rand died of cancer in 1996 and was interred at Beth El Cemetery. For me, personally, I am drawn to the magazine covers Rand produced in his early career, working for Esquire and Direction magazine from the late 1930s - 40s. During this wartime period Rand was starting out his approach to graphic design, using Swiss Style and mathematical grid formats in order to produce Le Corbusier type designs to put his message across clearly. In this example of a Christmas cover for Direction magazine in December 1940, Rand produced a Christmas present-type design, but rather than ribbon he substituted barbed wire, with red dots suggesting blood splatters, in order to convey the horror of war at that time.

get it done right the first time

One must underline that at that time, in the middle of the Cold War, abstract artists (like Pollock) were promoted by the American government via the Congress for Cultural Freedom, a propaganda organization. In contrast with the figurative communist art, the red enemy, abstract art was praised by large fortunes and institutions such as the MoMA, Rockefeller, or IBM. Because it was new and exhilarating, or simply to avoid the wrath of the government that blacklisted "communist witches" or anyone with sympathizing ideas, artists embarked on this art which also guarenteed political immunity. He not only had to create a design system for the sprawling company but also convince the designers at its many outposts to adhere to that system. He worked on packaging, on showrooms, on interiors for the company's offices. "The other thing he does is introduces all of these bright colors," Albrecht says.

Who is the father of Graphic Design?

He is probably one of the most influential American Modernist graphic designers of the 20th century, certainly in America. Developing his career in magazine design, he created graphic images for book covers, posters and advertising, although it was his approach to corporate brand and logo designs that catapulted him into fame. It was Paul Rand who developed the meaning of a consistent brand identity and companies quickly took note about what he had to say. Paul Rand was a leading figure in twentieth-century graphic design. He helped revolutionize commercial art in America during the 1930s, advocating the functional yet beautiful designs envisioned by European modernists. His work communicated a clear message to the viewer by combining recognizable symbols, text, and humor in an eye-catching way.

One of his notable designs was featured on the cover of Direction magazine, which he created free of charge in honor of artistic freedom. Born Peretz Rosenbaum in 1914 and deceased in 1996, Paul Rand is a graphic design legend. Throughout his 60-years long career, he changed America's opinion on visual communication. With his editorial designs, advertisements, and visual identity works, Rand brought avant-garde European ideas to the United-States, mixing visual arts and commercial design. His colourful combinations, approach of typography and use of media translate his desire to "defamiliarize the ordinary". His style consequently still have an impact on graphic design today.

Paul Rand: Inspiration and Process in Design

What is not well known is the significant role he played in setting the pattern for future approaches to the advertising concept. Paul was probably the first of a long and distinguished line of art directors to work with and appreciate the unique talent of William Bernbach. IBM is the first company for which he conceives a brand identity and all visual communication campaigns. While this is only a fraction of his work, his achievements for ABC, UPS, Westinghouse, Cummins or Enron become visible and ubiquitous in the United States and abroad. They are the symbol of a post-war global culture crowning the political, military and commercial success of the United States.

Lustig was also a consultant to the University of Georgia and taught at Black Mountain College and Art Center. For Rand, in the age of McCarthyism, honesty was critical, especially when it came to corporate brand identity. In this febrile atmosphere of distrust and suspicion that descended on suburban America during this period, his American roots were a perfect foil to his modernist European contemporaries.

Subsequently, Rand began his career as a part-time stock image creator for a syndicate. Soon his class assignments and part-time job rendered him to assemble a distinguished portfolio. His work was highly influenced by Sachplakat, the German advertising style and Gustav Jensen’s works. During this time he also decided to cloak his Jewish origin by shortening and modernizing his name Peretz Rosenbaum as Paul Rand. The decision worked in his best interest as he became the most enduring brand name for graphic designing. Shortly after, he became a success story and during his twenties his graphic work earned international recognition.

"In the exhibition we have carbon paper boxes that are pink and brown. And that gives the company a very colorful, hip appearance...All of this is meant to make the company more personable." Dr. Ron Paul is a former member of the House of Representatives. This article was written for and published by the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity. All photos appear on this tab and here you can update the sort order of photos on memorials you manage.

In 1941, at the age of 27, Rand was named chief art director of the newly-formed ad agency William H. Weintraub & Co. American advertising at the time had changed little since the late 19th Century, especially in terms of how the ads were conceived. Within the presentation Rand explained his concern that the company name sounded too close to "exit" and how he overcame that by creating a new rhythm to the name within the logo, where the copy was contained within a two-dimensional image. He did this by changing the case of the "E" to a lowercase "e" and adding a 28 degree tilt on the design. This would force the consumer to pause for thought upon reading the name, making it more memorable and enduring. To this day the company name is still referred to in copy as NeXT, showing how deeply seated Rand's design has become.

Famously working with IBM, he revolutionised their approach to brand, developing a bright, modern logo that could be used across all communication channels, be it print media, packaging, billboards or the side of buildings. The IBM logo told a clear story about the company and where it stood as a symbol of Post War global culture, as well as how that defined American success as a whole during this period. In an interesting way the chronology of Paul Rand’s design experience has paralleled the development of the modern design movement.

The Town House Los Angeles Wikipedia

town house

As the name suggests, townhouses are designed for high-density, urban environments, with a tall and narrow silhouette. The Town House was developed by oil magnate Edward Doheny[3] as one of the most luxurious apartment-hotels in Southern California. They can be a great option for homebuyers who enjoy living close to their neighbors, or who crave a compromise between a detached house and an apartment. This venerable form of housing — dating back to 17th-century Europe — originated in cities, but now can be found in suburbs and exurbs. As the Manager of Content Marketing at Redfin, Jeff leads a passionate team of writers and content strategists who are dedicated to providing engaging content that matters. In this article, we will explore the pros and cons of purchasing a townhouse compared to other types of housing.

Buying Options

This map is refreshed with the newest listings in Hollywood every 15 minutes. Townhouses represent a nice cross between a fully detached home and an apartment. Many in big cities are often situated in historic neighborhoods, so they can be a savvy way to get into a desirable or colorful zip code, especially if you can’t afford a single-family home or brand-new apartment. Many types of homeowners can benefit from townhouses, but they’re a particularly good option for first-time homebuyers, singles or childless couples.

A townhouse is a type of house dwelling that is characterized by its narrow and tall structure. It’s a house that is attached to one or more similar houses, forming a row or terrace of houses. Townhouses can be found in urban or suburban areas and are often located in neighborhoods that are close to commercial and entertainment districts. The Town House is a large former hotel property built in 1929 on Wilshire Boulevard, adjacent to Lafayette Park in the Westlake district of Los Angeles, California. Technically, townhouse refers to a style of residence, whose chief characteristic is its physical attachment to its neighbors (as opposed to a totally detached dwelling). They originated in London and Paris in the 1600s, and emigrated to the burgeoning colonial cities of North America — Boston, Philadelphia and New York — in the next century.

Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer or looking to downsize, this guide will provide valuable insights to help you make an informed decision. It’s always a good idea to talk to potential neighbors when you’re considering buying a home. It’s particularly important when buying a townhouse, since you’ll likely be in closer proximity to them. Ask them what they like about the area and if there are any HOA issues you should know about.

We do not include the universe of companies or financial offers that may be available to you. Many townhouses are also part of a homeowners’ association (HOA), which means that residents pay a fee to the association to cover the cost of maintenance, landscaping, and other shared amenities. This fee may also cover the cost of trash removal, snow removal, and other services. Additionally, townhouses are often located in desirable locations that are close to shopping, dining, and entertainment. Townhouses are usually multi-level, with two or three stories, and they often have a small yard or patio. They are typically designed with a living room, dining room, and kitchen on the ground floor, with bedrooms and bathrooms on the upper floors.

Things to do in Fresno, CA if You’re New to the City

Some townhouses have a basement or garage, which provides additional living space or storage. Deciding where to live is one of the most significant decisions we make in our lifetime, and choosing the right type of housing is an essential part of this process. With so many options available, such as apartments, detached homes, and townhouses, it can be challenging to decide which type of housing is the right fit for you. While a townhouse may make sense for you now, multi-floor living may not work for everyone and at all stages of life. If you’re planning to expand your family or are worried about your ability to traverse steps in the future, you should have a plan for whether you’ll be able to stay in the property. There are currently 6 townhouses for sale in Hollywood at a median listing price of $988K.

Today, townhouses exist in small cities, on the outskirts of cities, and even in suburban areas. In the latter, they are often attached uniform residences belonging to a distinct community that has its own homeowners association. Technically, a townhouse could be any city dwelling, but the name usually applies to a style of multi-floor home that shares one or two walls with adjacent properties. Each has its own entrance and often a small front lawn and backyard as well.

Around the turn of the 20th century, in New York City, they evolved into a more utilitarian form — the rowhouse, built in sets of four, six or eight, identical except for occasional details. And while their popularity has ebbed and flowed over the decades, there are signs that townhouses are getting a new lease on life. In 2020, townhouses comprised 11 percent of single-family new construction, down from nearly 14 percent in 2008, according to an analysis from the National Association of Home Builders. Then, in 2021, the number of new-build townhouses increased by over 28 percent over the previous year.

Many Millennial homeowners on a budget are choosing newly built townhouse communities within city limits, so they don’t have to sacrifice location when they buy a new home. Homeowners associations can restrict everything from the color of your door to whether you’re allowed to park in your own driveway (as opposed to your garage). Make sure you’re comfortable with the HOA rules — and the financial commitment — before you go ahead with a purchase in any community. Apartments refer to individual living units within a larger building or complex.

Cons of townhouses

Many Millennial homeowners on a budget are choosing newly built townhouse communities within city limits, so they don’t have to sacrifice location when they buy a new home. Homeowners associations can restrict everything from the color of your door to whether you’re allowed to park in your own driveway (as opposed to your garage). Make sure you’re comfortable with the HOA rules — and the financial commitment — before you go ahead with a purchase in any community. Apartments refer to individual living units within a larger building or complex.

They’re typically less expensive than single-family homes and offer a lower maintenance lifestyle than owning a standalone house. Townhouses are often located in desirable locations and are a popular housing option for many people. If this sounds like what you’re looking for, then a townhouse may be right for you.

“I wanted you to feel like you were transported to another time and place,” Scheff says. It’s kind of complicated—and a little like another beloved French export, Champagne. “There are different types of toile, and I think everybody just uses it interchangeably,” she explains. Technically, toile de Jouy should refer only to the single-color printed scene on cotton fabric that comes from and depicts Jouy-en-Josas.

From there, the popularity of toile de Jouy exploded in the interior space, and it has been a classic staple in more traditional interior styles, and more modernly in fashion, ever since. In contrast, bungalows focus on efficient use of space with compact closets and small verandas, offering cozy design elements. Ranch houses often boast high ceilings and separate bedrooms, providing comfort and privacy, while bungalows may offer customizations like converted attic spaces for personalized touches. When comparing old buildings to modern ones, we see a stark contrast in architectural styles, amenities, and safety features. Old buildings often lack modern technology and energy efficiency, while modern buildings prioritize sleek designs, eco-friendly materials, and advanced systems. Each type has its own appeal, with old houses showcasing character and architectural details, and modern houses prioritizing efficiency and functionality.

Different bungalow types like Craftsman or Tudor have unique design elements, setting them apart from other home styles. Additionally, ranch houses usually emphasize large windows and spacious patios, whereas bungalows are known for their charming front porches or verandas. Understanding these architectural distinctions can help homeowners make informed decisions when choosing between ranch houses and bungalows.

Elements of Classic Design Style

Bungalows may include decorative elements like exposed rafters and intricate woodwork, adding charm and character to their exterior. In contrast, bungalows may surprise with unique customizations like converted attic spaces or cozy alcoves, adding character and charm to the living space. Additionally, bungalows are known for their compact closets with built-in shelving, cleverly designed to maximize storage in limited space without compromising style. For those looking for a flooring option that's both durable and easy to clean, laminate flooring stands out as a cost-effective and reliable choice that can enhance the aesthetic appeal of any space. In terms of energy efficiency, modern houses shine with better insulation and eco-friendly features, leading to reduced utility costs.

We've found that the type of flooring that requires the least maintenance is luxury vinyl. When comparing maintenance requirements, the disparities between old and modern houses become apparent. Understanding these key points is crucial when considering the maintenance and potential upgrades needed for both old and modern houses. Central heating, smart thermostats, and energy-efficient lighting are standard in modern houses, ensuring comfort and cost savings. High-speed internet connectivity is a common inclusion, along with automated lighting controls for effortless customization. In modern housing, the disparities in technology and amenities between old and contemporary residences are stark, influencing daily living experiences significantly.

However, drawbacks of two-story homes can involve height restrictions that limit ceiling height and the presence of stairways that can take up valuable living space. Ranch houses, with their emphasis on horizontal lines and sprawling layout, often feature low-pitched roofs, wide overhanging eaves, and large windows. Whether you prefer the grandeur of high ceilings in a ranch house or the coziness of alcoves in a bungalow, both styles offer interior features tailored to meet a variety of lifestyle needs and design preferences. As we explore the distinctions between these two architectural styles, we will uncover the unique features that make them stand out and appeal to different demographics. For those seeking a blend of aesthetics, durability, and ease of maintenance, Luxury Vinyl Tile emerges as a top choice in the world of innovative flooring solutions. Mimicking the natural textures of hardwood or stone, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) offers a realistic and stylish flooring solution for both residential and commercial spaces.

The room is anchored by a Riva 1920 table made with the wood of a 50,000-year-old Kauri tree, which Levine surrounded with seating for 12. Another seating area with views of the garden was designed for more intimate dining, games, or meetings, and it’s illuminated by a Murano glass chandelier. At the far end of the room, Levine installed a lush purple sofa with cocktail tables, creating the perfect spot for drinks, dessert, or relaxing with a cup of coffee. Toile de Jouy is having a bit of a resurgence because “casual and comfortable design” is too, See says. In that sense, it’s linked to the comeback of traditional design features like stripes, trellises, and tented rooms.

“There are both professors and students within the university who say things that I think cross the line and there should be accountability. When former First Lady Michelle Obama spoke to Oprah Winfrey, she shared that she and her husband, former President Barack Obama, practiced restraint for personal expenses at the White House. Michelle explained that while they didn't have to shell out money for rent or staff salaries, they had to pay for any special food they requested. So, she told her husband to steer clear of mentioning he was fond of any expensive ingredients because the staff would order it and then forward them a hefty bill at the end of the month. When former First Lady Michelle Obama first walked into the White House, she realized that her job's luxuries weren't as nice as they seemed. In her 2020 documentary "Becoming," she recalled that while having tea with Laura Bush before the handover, she noticed that the White House support staff primarily consisted of African-American and Latino men in impeccable tuxedos.

Scott, 15, is at the point in his life when he finds out that the most important people around him, his father, his mother, and his brother, are not exactly who he thought they were.

This is the point in the movie when Sam first begins to help George. Life as a House is a 2001 American drama film produced and written by Irwin Winkler. The screenplay by Mark Andrus focuses on a man who is anxious to repair his ex-wife and teenaged son after he is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Those characters include George (Kevin Kline), a model-maker who has just been fired from his job at an architect's firm. Robin (Kristin Scott Thomas), his ex-wife, now trapped in a loveless marriage with the absent-minded Peter (Jamey Sheridan). Sam (Hayden Christensen), George and Robin's angst-ridden, pierced, drug-using and self-loathing son. Coleen (Mary Steenburgen), the next-door neighbor, and her daughter Alyssa (Jena Malone). And Josh (Ian Somerhalder), Sam's friend and Alyssa's boyfriend, and a part-time pimp.

After losing her mother in a car accident that leaves her with a broken arm, 4-year-old Ponette struggles with anguish and fear. Left by her father with a caring aunt and her children, Ponette grieves, secretly hoping her mother will somehow come back. Confused by the religious explanations provided by adults, and challenged by the cruel taunts of a few children at school, little Ponette must make her way through her emotional turmoil.

When a movie is called LIFE AS A HOUSE, you enter on full metaphor alert. But this movie gives us something more, thanks to a script by Mark Andrus (of "As Good as it Gets") and a first-rate cast. Small-space dwellers who need a WFH setup needn’t work in their bed all day (though, hey, we’re not judging). With the right amount of spatial finagling, you can fit a small desk into a studio apartment. Ferrer was lucky enough to have a preexisting nook, but you can achieve the same with a narrow desk, small lamp, and overhead shelving for stashing away books or office supplies. Bonus points for a striking accent wall, which, in the case of Ferrer’s apartment, makes this small office feel like a chic den.

The soundtrack of Life as a House features original music composed by Mark Isham. The music complements the emotional journey of the characters and enhances the overall viewing experience. Life as a House delves into the complexities of family dynamics, exploring the strained relationship between George and his son Sam and highlighting the importance of communication, understanding, and forgiveness within a family. Hollywood has fallen on dark days, dumbing down many of its films to the point where the actors seem measurably brighter than their dialogue and decisions. The current "My First Mister" directed by Chrstine Lahti, has surprisingly similar situations, more effectively handled. “Life as a House” is aimed at the audience that admired a movie like “Terms of Endearment” (1983) but exists, alas, on the level of its pale sequel, “The Evening Star” (1996).

The city is a melting pot of cultures, leading to a wide array of food, music, and festivals. Residents can enjoy cuisine from all over the world, visit museums like the Getty Center, or attend live shows and concerts. However, newcomers should be aware that traffic congestion is a significant issue, and public transportation options, while improving, may not cover all areas extensively.
